Tasuta tehnoloogialaager tüdrukutele: WiSci STEAM Camp Tallinnas

U.S. Embassy Hosting Girls’ STEAM Camp in Tallinn with Google, Intel Experts

The U.S. Embassy in Estonia is partnering with the UN Foundation’s Girl Up campaign and U.S. Embassies in Latvia, Poland, and Georgia to host a Women in Science (WiSci) STEAM Camp for Girls in Tallinn from July 14 to 27, 2019.  This program is a public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of State, Girl Up, Google, and Intel to give one hundred girls from five countries the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn tech skills directly from industry experts while building friendships across borders and oceans.  The two-week whirlwind camp is free for all participants in order to give girls a leg up for a future in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields.

The academic curriculum explores everything from robotics to coding, while also covering important themes like entrepreneurship and leadership.  Instruction days are complemented with individual and group mentorship with women from a variety of STEAM paths, sharing their lessons learned and guiding the next generation toward a brighter tomorrow.

WiSci STEAM Camps are a safe, supportive, and girl-centered environment that encourages participants to take risks and build resilience through determination, developing young women’s confidence to take charge in their education and careers.  Campers graduate connected with our extensive alumnae network, as well as with a wide array of personal contacts from around the globe.  In the past, the camps have been hosted in Rwanda, Namibia, Malawi, Georgia, and Peru, making this its first iteration in the European Union.

Requirements for campers:
·         Self-identifying girls ages 15 to 18
·         From the United States, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, or Georgia
·         At least one year of secondary school remaining
·         An interest in STEAM fields

We are also looking for four university-aged counselors from Estonia to serve as coordinators and role models for participants throughout the program.
